This award is available to any member of the SCCS (other than committee members) or non-members for a costume or textile related activity. Projects such as the partial funding of an area of research, purchase of archival products for a small museum or trust, or the cost of a conference fee would be eligible. Other items might include help with fees for courses, workshops, travel expenses, books for research or entrance fees for visits to collections.
Application for the award of a maximum of £250 should include details of the proposed project with costs and dates, plus a supporting statement. The application need not be a large or time consuming document. It should merely make clear how the money will be useful and what relevance this has to the society’s interests.
Award winners will be asked to report back briefly on the activity funded by the award, either in the newsletter or in person at a study day. Alternatively, the successful applicants may agree to give a full length presentation as part of the SCCS programme of events. The fee for such a presentation will effectually increase the value of the award.
The deadline for applications for this award is 1st August each year. Applications are discussed by the committee at their summer meeting and applicants will be informed of the committee’s decision in September. Depending on the nature and number of applications, the award may be divided between several projects and applicants.
